Riverdale 1.13 The Sweet Hereafter

  • Reminder: Blue is Shane Lee, Blue on my pics are my words, White on pics are show quotes, pink is Syd
  • It’s season finale time, guys! Riverdale began with  splash and ended with a bang! Who took the bullet? Read on to find out!

  • Quickly I just want to say that I love that the show gave itself a whole episode to set up for season 2 after solving the big season mystery.

  • We begin with essentially recaps by Juggy and Alice, both of whom are writing about the murder for two very different reasons.
  • We also learn in this recap that only did Clifford Blossom kill his son and himself, but he was responsible for the Southside Sea Serpent Mustang’s death as well, all to cover up his true business. Transporting drugs (Heroin) under the guise of running a maple syrup company.
  • Also:
  • Mayor McCoy is prepping for the annual Jubilee and wants to feature Archie and Betty. She also wants some credit for helping apprehend the true killer.
  • Then we had a camera man go around and around the group at lunch and it was a little dizzying, but Juggy delivered this great line!
  • Then Archie really didn’t want to Betty about he and V dating
  • Meanwhile, at ThornHill, the remaining Blossoms were taking all of their bad news as about as well as to be expected.
  • Archie then wanted to talk to Betty about him and V dating, to make sure she was “okay” but she so supports them and is totally okay with it. It’s not like Archie wants her to be jealous . . .
  • Josie is back and was so Josie!
  • Betty wants to write an article about FP’s innocence and everyone warns her against it, due to the backlash she would receive. She does it anyway and then this happens.
  • Cheryl begins to show signs that she will take her own life and no one notices until she has to spell it out for them.
  • Fred aka Luke Perry called social services for Juggy because I guess he “can’t: raise two teenage boys or some stupid reason that made no sense . . . this also means Juggy would have to transfer to the Southside High school.
  • After confronting Alice about her big secret (argument with Hal on Homecoming night) Alice dropped this bomb!
  • Juggy decided to attend Southside High where he actually got along better with everyone than he ever did at Riverdale.
  • Archie also becomes jealous of #Jughead.
  • Everyone rushes to save Cheryl and no one tries harder than Archie!
    • I must point out, Cheryl had this horrifying vision of her brother
  • It’s the Jubilee, and everything goes over pretty well. Archie sang with Pussycats and because he saved Cheryl, Josie decided sing one of his songs. And for some reason Veronica was on stage too. I just feel sorry for poor Val, who you know this had to be awkward for!
  • B also delivered a speech that got a standing ovation and possibly set up Mayor McCoy as the next season’s big bad!
  • Then we had big which couple would do it scene and to no one’s surprise it was . . . what is there couple name Varchie, Rarchie, Archonica . . . .
  • And finally the big cliffhanger! Who was shot? Archie or Fred aka Luke Perry aka Dillon?
  • Don’t worry about waiting until next season . . .
  • But the question is why? We are told it was not accident and will he live?

That’s it for season one! Hermoine was also particularly annoying this episode and it seems to be because Hiram, her hubby is coming home in one month! Juggy embraced the Southside Sea Serpents by becoming one of them and Betty looked a whole like her other in the last scene!

You guys, next week will have a special review and break down for the season as a whole presented as an award show-Next Week: The Blossies!!!!!

Until then, stay #RiverdaleStrong!

Instead of trying to summarize this episode I really just want to share with you some of my favorite moments from last night. While I thoroughly enjoyed The Sweet Hereafter, the suspense I had while watching the murderer revealed last week was gone, and the overall feeling I got while watching this episode was just calmer. So, let's relax a bit and look at some of the best moments from the finale. Betty and Jughead almost did it.

OK, I'll get this one out of my system real quick. I'll also stop acting like a 13 year old and use the "S" word eventually too. Bughead came home from the jubilee closer than ever. Betty gave her speech to the citizens of Riverdale and basically told them to get their shit together or else more crimes would be committed in Riverdale. She recognized FP and Jughead in her speech and Jug must have really appreciated that. Soon after the event was over the two made their way back to FP's empty trailer to have sex. Well, I don't think they had it all planned out, but the mood seemed to be right so they tried. The Serpents inconveniently showed up to give Jug a present during this time, though, and it kind of spoiled things. Which brings me to another fantastic moment. Jug ditches the beanie and puts on the gang jacket. Is this a sign that season two will bring us a new Jughead? A southside serpent Jug? Possibly. Plus, he looked so darn good in that thing.

Veronica, yet again, standing up to Hermione. Not that it always works, I mean the last time I remember Ronnie defying Hermione was when she refused to sign those papers, but Hermione just forged Ronnie's signature anyway. But this time it wasn't so easy for Mrs. Lodge to get what she wanted because Veronica and Fred were resisting her. She first wanted Fred to agree to be bought out on this construction project. Hiram and Hermione were going to give him a generous sum to let it go, but Fred is prideful and disagrees to this. And I agree with Fred's decision. Because she couldn't talk Fred into selling, she asked Veronica to talk to Archie about it to see if he could persuade his father. Did I say she wanted Veronica to talk to Archie? I meant seduce. She basically suggested that she wanted her to seduce him. Veronica responded to this with a pretty strong no. Hermione was pretty awful this entire episode. And she hasn't exactly been innocent this season, but at least she was likable. Last night, though? Nah. But this is why V standing up to her was satisfying.

Hal smiled. As Shane has pointed out to me before, Hal is almost a robot at times. He shows little to no emotion and, I think, he holds the same confused expression on his face pretty much always.

Not that I dislike that face, but he smiled last night after Alice read the article their daughter wrote on the recent scandal that took place in Riverdale.

He looked proud; it was touching. You really knocked this one outta the park, Hal! I hope to see more of him in season two. Preferably teamed up and getting along with Alice because I do so love to see them together. I need to see a nice balance of bickering and teamwork with those two.

Cheryl burning down the house.

Which, by the way, that song should have been playing while Thornhill went up in flames, right? I think so. Cheryl was absolutely pitiful last night. She was suicidal and really sad. Not that it was explored a whole lot, but we saw enough of it to make me empathize with her. But I think I always try to empathize with her. Someone needs to because her mom obviously can't. My guess is Cheryl has had very little support dealing with the death of her brother and her father's suicide, and last night she snapped. After her failed suicide attempt, she came home and burnt down Thornhill in order to start over fresh. Good call, Cheryl. I bet Thornhill has a "Rose Red" evil house thing going on; it sure looks like it.

So there it goes. Up in flames. These were just a few of my favorite moments from last night, but there was plenty more going on during all this. What were some of your favorite scenes from the finale? Please share if you'd like!

I'll Just leave this here.

Riverdale: Anatomy of the Murder

This show is just so good right now. I wanna share with you my favorite things about it.

1. The drama
2. Alice and Hal
3. Cheryl
4. Everything about Betty

The drama in this show is so good and they (everyone involved in producing this show) know how to keep us invested. Well, they know how to keep me invested. I was afraid I was going to be disappointed in the reveal of the murderer last night. I was so afraid they would make us wait until the end to find out who committed the crime, which wouldn't be the worst timing for the reveal, but I was afraid for what would come in between. Know what I mean? I thought I would be too anxious to find out who it was and get really impatient with most of the episode. That didn't happen.

We picked up where we left off thinking FP had something to with the murder, possibly even did it himself. Kevin's dad brought him in once they found the murder weapon in his trailer. While being questioned, FP admits to the murder. WHAT?! NO! Yes. I ping ponged the idea of him doing it back and forth in my head during that first commercial break after he confessed. Much like Betty, I refused to give up on the one member of Jughead's family that seems to love and want him. By the end of the episode I was not disappointed.

Alice and Hal are crazy awesome right now. I love it when they fight. I love it when they work together. I love it when they beat down the Thornhill door in the middle of the night to insult the Blossoms and snatch up Polly. Once FP confessed to killing Jason, Alice accepted the confession and stopped her personal detective work she had been doing on the side with Betty and any other kid that wanted to help. But once she found Hal gathering stolen evidence he had stored in the Cooper home, evidence that he stole from the police a few episodes back, she started to think there was more to this story. Hal had to come clean and tell his wife and daughter the truth about their family history...

They are actually Blossoms! Well, I didn't expect that. That grandpappy of theirs that was murdered by a Blossom, he was actually a Blossom too. His BROTHER killed him. When that happened, the folks associated with Hal changed their name to Cooper and moved on with their lives. So, those babies Polly is carrying? Those babies are half Blossom and half Blossom. The incest in this show. Anyway, Alice and Hal then decide to confront the Blossoms in the middle of the night about the baby, and they take Polly back fearing for her safety in that home.

Poor Polly. She had no clue she fell in love with her cousin and is now carrying the fruit of his loins. She looked terrified. Mama Blossom was not terrified. Her unexpected response to the news was a delighted one because of how Blossom the babies were. Hal replied to this with a fed up "what is wrong with you people?!" and that is the most I've ever liked Hal. It's like, in that moment, he finally realized that he should not be surprised by anything these people do anymore. Any action they take, any feeling they feel, no matter how outlandish, just expect it from the Blossoms. Hal was appalled and yet accepting it all in one question, "what is wrong with you people?!" Alice was wearing Hal's verbal expression on her face perfectly.

Cheryl was there for the whole event too. What is it with her? Some weeks I feel so sorry for her. Some weeks I'm so amused with her. Her arrogance. Her "head bitch in charge" shirt she wears to cheer practice is just one of the best wardrobe choices. The time she called Archie's dad a dilf. Her mean little one liners that are just so hilarious, like the time she called Jug a hobo. How does she do it? I know not everyone likes Cheryl. I can see why one wouldn't, but for me she is great and I love how much my feelings for her change every week. It just seems fitting. She's kind of manic, so it only seems right that my feelings for her would shift with her moods.

We got the sad Cheryl last night. She was mostly quiet and kind of moping around, I guess because she thought she knew who killed her brother, and next to that she also had to deal with the discovery of what her father's maple syrup business is really about. It's drugs, right? Isn't that what they found in the syrup jugs? I can't think of anything else packaged up that way.

Although I've sent some pretty shady looking packages via USPS before that look similar to this. That's what happens when you haven't perfected the art of wrapping up parcels. Anyway, she kind of lost it on Jug when he approached her in the cafeteria at lunch to apologize for his father and what he had done.

I was really unsure at this point if she was going to slap him or hug him. She definitely started slapping him and eventually bloodied his lip a little. Of course we eventually found out this was unnecessary because guess what? FP wasn't the killer.

We all know Kevin's boyfriend Joaquinn is involved with FP in some way, but what way? Well, he was with FP when they found Jason's body. And he also knew FP was innocent because he steered the gang in the right direction to find the video that was hiding in the lining of Jason's pocket which just happened to show who killed Jason.

The video showed that a serpent had intercepted Jason on his way out of town the day he tried to run away, and the serpent had him tied up to a chair in the basement of their gang bar where he beat him and stuff. Then, Clifford Blossom walks in. He points a gun at Jason's head. He pulls the trigger. And that is the darkest turn this show has taken yet.

After seeing this, Betty calls Cheryl to warn her. Beautiful, smart, lovely Betty. She's really amazing. The way we saw this go down was by watching the gang as they watched the video on a lap top.

Before we knew who did it, we got to see their reactions to the video. Betty definitely had the strongest reaction and she immediately got up to make that phone call. Before I knew who she was calling, I thought for sure it was a Cooper that had killed Jason. Anyone else? I'm sure that is what we were supposed to think. But then we came back from commercial and see the cops pull up to Thornhill and ask for Clifford Blossom.

He went that way, officer

But he won't be going to jail. He hung himself in his maple syrup drugs storage barn.

And that is that. What will happen next? I'm really anxious to see what the finale will be like. I imagine they will set up season two, and that's really great too because I really want to get a feeling for what's to come. I'm sure it will be great! Thank you Riverdale for being exactly the show that I've needed!

Holy killer reveal! Last night's Riverdale was dark, twisted, and all sorts of fun! We finally learned who Jason Blossom's murderer is, the roles everyone played in it, someone else bit the dust, a family was torn apart, one relationship ended and that's just the tip of the iceberg. Let's dive in, just as if we were in that canoe with Cheryl.

We pick right up where we left off, in Pop's Diner with Archie and V explaining to B that FP was set up and B seemed very uncertain.

So, they decided to tell their parents everything and they were all very ready to pin this on FP and call it a night.

Elsewhere that night, Juggy was making plans to leave to go visit his mother and sister Jellybean for a bit, but that didn't go so well . . .

Later that night, Archie, B & V finally caught up with Juggy tell him they know FP is being framed, but across town FP confessed to everything! (literally everything).

The next day at school, Juggy tried to apologize to Cheryl and she wasn't having any of it.

Then Juggy overheard Luke Perry trying to explain to Archie how he should pretty much distance himself from Juggy and the trouble that follows him. Poor guy. Archie did stick up for him.

Later that night, Alice and B heard an intrude in their house but, it was really favorite non expressive father, Hal.

Hal showed them the files he stole, that FP had confessed to and then he dropped the mother of all incest bombs:

That's right, he's a Blossom, Alice is a Blossom, B is a Blossom, they're all Blossoms, as is Polly which makes her and Jason related!!!! Incest!!!!!!! How did Cheryl's parents feel about this?

So, the Cooper's/Blossoms rescue Polly and take her home.
Next we find out from Archie's mom that FP's one call in jail was to Joquin. So, naturally everyone goes to Kevin. and they confront Joquin. Joquin admits to helping clean up, after jason was shot assuming FP did it.

Joquin's story also leads Archie, V and Kevin  to a guy named mustang, who has unfortunately overdosed.

After calling the police, they find a bag with the initials HL and assume it belongs to Hermoine but V is quick to confess all about her father.

Joquin decides to skip town, thus ending his relationship with Kevin. Before he goes, Joquin tells Kevin one more piece of the story:

He told Kevin where to find the jacket that B wasted no time making Archie wear and then frisking him.

She found a USB drive and so everyone watched it. On it, was the murder and the real killer!

Clifford Blossom killed his own son! B called Cheryl to warn her to get out, but I have to give it to Cheryl, she confronted the killer head on!

W learn FP confessed: Clifford threatened to kill Juggy if he did not. Archie bids farewell to his mother as she returns to Chicago, and the police go after Clifford, only to find that he has hung himself and what the real money maker was for the Blossoms. It's not maple syrup .  . .

Wow! Next week promises new mysteries as we set up for season 2 and I cannot wait! Stay #RiverdaleStrong!
