Riverdale 1.13 The Sweet Hereafter

  • Reminder: Blue is Shane Lee, Blue on my pics are my words, White on pics are show quotes, pink is Syd
  • It’s season finale time, guys! Riverdale began with  splash and ended with a bang! Who took the bullet? Read on to find out!

  • Quickly I just want to say that I love that the show gave itself a whole episode to set up for season 2 after solving the big season mystery.

  • We begin with essentially recaps by Juggy and Alice, both of whom are writing about the murder for two very different reasons.
  • We also learn in this recap that only did Clifford Blossom kill his son and himself, but he was responsible for the Southside Sea Serpent Mustang’s death as well, all to cover up his true business. Transporting drugs (Heroin) under the guise of running a maple syrup company.
  • Also:
  • Mayor McCoy is prepping for the annual Jubilee and wants to feature Archie and Betty. She also wants some credit for helping apprehend the true killer.
  • Then we had a camera man go around and around the group at lunch and it was a little dizzying, but Juggy delivered this great line!
  • Then Archie really didn’t want to Betty about he and V dating
  • Meanwhile, at ThornHill, the remaining Blossoms were taking all of their bad news as about as well as to be expected.
  • Archie then wanted to talk to Betty about him and V dating, to make sure she was “okay” but she so supports them and is totally okay with it. It’s not like Archie wants her to be jealous . . .
  • Josie is back and was so Josie!
  • Betty wants to write an article about FP’s innocence and everyone warns her against it, due to the backlash she would receive. She does it anyway and then this happens.
  • Cheryl begins to show signs that she will take her own life and no one notices until she has to spell it out for them.
  • Fred aka Luke Perry called social services for Juggy because I guess he “can’t: raise two teenage boys or some stupid reason that made no sense . . . this also means Juggy would have to transfer to the Southside High school.
  • After confronting Alice about her big secret (argument with Hal on Homecoming night) Alice dropped this bomb!
  • Juggy decided to attend Southside High where he actually got along better with everyone than he ever did at Riverdale.
  • Archie also becomes jealous of #Jughead.
  • Everyone rushes to save Cheryl and no one tries harder than Archie!
    • I must point out, Cheryl had this horrifying vision of her brother
  • It’s the Jubilee, and everything goes over pretty well. Archie sang with Pussycats and because he saved Cheryl, Josie decided sing one of his songs. And for some reason Veronica was on stage too. I just feel sorry for poor Val, who you know this had to be awkward for!
  • B also delivered a speech that got a standing ovation and possibly set up Mayor McCoy as the next season’s big bad!
  • Then we had big which couple would do it scene and to no one’s surprise it was . . . what is there couple name Varchie, Rarchie, Archonica . . . .
  • And finally the big cliffhanger! Who was shot? Archie or Fred aka Luke Perry aka Dillon?
  • Don’t worry about waiting until next season . . .
  • But the question is why? We are told it was not accident and will he live?

That’s it for season one! Hermoine was also particularly annoying this episode and it seems to be because Hiram, her hubby is coming home in one month! Juggy embraced the Southside Sea Serpents by becoming one of them and Betty looked a whole like her other in the last scene!

You guys, next week will have a special review and break down for the season as a whole presented as an award show-Next Week: The Blossies!!!!!

Until then, stay #RiverdaleStrong!

Instead of trying to summarize this episode I really just want to share with you some of my favorite moments from last night. While I thoroughly enjoyed The Sweet Hereafter, the suspense I had while watching the murderer revealed last week was gone, and the overall feeling I got while watching this episode was just calmer. So, let's relax a bit and look at some of the best moments from the finale. Betty and Jughead almost did it.

OK, I'll get this one out of my system real quick. I'll also stop acting like a 13 year old and use the "S" word eventually too. Bughead came home from the jubilee closer than ever. Betty gave her speech to the citizens of Riverdale and basically told them to get their shit together or else more crimes would be committed in Riverdale. She recognized FP and Jughead in her speech and Jug must have really appreciated that. Soon after the event was over the two made their way back to FP's empty trailer to have sex. Well, I don't think they had it all planned out, but the mood seemed to be right so they tried. The Serpents inconveniently showed up to give Jug a present during this time, though, and it kind of spoiled things. Which brings me to another fantastic moment. Jug ditches the beanie and puts on the gang jacket. Is this a sign that season two will bring us a new Jughead? A southside serpent Jug? Possibly. Plus, he looked so darn good in that thing.

Veronica, yet again, standing up to Hermione. Not that it always works, I mean the last time I remember Ronnie defying Hermione was when she refused to sign those papers, but Hermione just forged Ronnie's signature anyway. But this time it wasn't so easy for Mrs. Lodge to get what she wanted because Veronica and Fred were resisting her. She first wanted Fred to agree to be bought out on this construction project. Hiram and Hermione were going to give him a generous sum to let it go, but Fred is prideful and disagrees to this. And I agree with Fred's decision. Because she couldn't talk Fred into selling, she asked Veronica to talk to Archie about it to see if he could persuade his father. Did I say she wanted Veronica to talk to Archie? I meant seduce. She basically suggested that she wanted her to seduce him. Veronica responded to this with a pretty strong no. Hermione was pretty awful this entire episode. And she hasn't exactly been innocent this season, but at least she was likable. Last night, though? Nah. But this is why V standing up to her was satisfying.

Hal smiled. As Shane has pointed out to me before, Hal is almost a robot at times. He shows little to no emotion and, I think, he holds the same confused expression on his face pretty much always.

Not that I dislike that face, but he smiled last night after Alice read the article their daughter wrote on the recent scandal that took place in Riverdale.

He looked proud; it was touching. You really knocked this one outta the park, Hal! I hope to see more of him in season two. Preferably teamed up and getting along with Alice because I do so love to see them together. I need to see a nice balance of bickering and teamwork with those two.

Cheryl burning down the house.

Which, by the way, that song should have been playing while Thornhill went up in flames, right? I think so. Cheryl was absolutely pitiful last night. She was suicidal and really sad. Not that it was explored a whole lot, but we saw enough of it to make me empathize with her. But I think I always try to empathize with her. Someone needs to because her mom obviously can't. My guess is Cheryl has had very little support dealing with the death of her brother and her father's suicide, and last night she snapped. After her failed suicide attempt, she came home and burnt down Thornhill in order to start over fresh. Good call, Cheryl. I bet Thornhill has a "Rose Red" evil house thing going on; it sure looks like it.

So there it goes. Up in flames. These were just a few of my favorite moments from last night, but there was plenty more going on during all this. What were some of your favorite scenes from the finale? Please share if you'd like!

I'll Just leave this here.
