Girl Meets World 3.1 & 3.2 Girl Meets High School Parts 1 & 2

Season 3 Episode 1
Girl Meets High School Part One

  • I really like the new intro! I’m as happy with it as Maya is being in it.
  • I am glad they kept the same song, but secretly hope one day we get BMW remix where girl is substituted for boy. That would be awesome!

Initial Thoughts and Reactions:

  • This exactly how high school is, depressing, scary and different!
  • It’s like my high school experience. My grade school was a K-8 school so it was quite a culture shock when most of classes were with strangers, most bigger than me, and several I did not like.
  • Thor, Nikki and Francesca-seriously, who names their kid Thor? Is this an ode to Marvel because they are owned by Disney too?
  • The hole is just a staircase . . . so they really should have kept walking and the problem would have been solved.
  • Everyone is blaming Riley for everything? Why? She isn’t controlling them . . .
  • The best part of this fight, was later one when Lucas finally admitted that Riley was too much for him sometime.
  • Why is the triangle a joke now? It’s not okay and not normal. Make a decision and move on with life.
  • I have mixed feeling about Smackle joining the group:
    • Positive: Another girl in the group gives us a different dynamic than Riley, Maya and the guys
    • Negative: They stripped her of everything that made Smackle unique- her superiority complex, her social awkwardness and fidgeting at being touched or hugged. She’s like a female Farkle and it doesn’t work.
  • I believe the Topanga scene was a missed opportunity for at least Maya to stand up to the seniors: I imagine a scene that goes like this:
Thor: Actually, you’re following us, this is our place?
MAYA: Really? Is your mom named Topanga? No, guess what her’s is. That makes it our place!

  • The Farkle/Riley scene was my favorite. It hurts to see them fight (and he is unjustly blaming her) but it’s so sincere which is why it hurts even more when they fight? Is the first time they have been on opposite ends of the argument?
We are going to be together forever! We just don't know it yet!

***Extra Tidbits***
  • I really like Marley and love that she calls out Corey out on his teaching methods or the lack thereof. I hope to see more of her.

  • This may have been the best Auggie and Ava story yet. I don’t think we need to see anymore of them in part 2, but I just know they’ll probably be back to shenanigans soon.

IF I WROTE THE EPISODE

There isn’t much I’d change about this one. I felt the tone and storyline for the most part was right on. The only thing I would have done differently would be to ax the seniors and the stupid hole bit. I would focus more on them being in a new environment, having different classes and no longer being the smartest or tallest. The first day of high school is never really that fun and everyone is kind of shoved in their own direction. The seniors could still be included to show they aren’t as good as they think they were, but the hole was just too much for me, especially since they could have just kept walking down the stairs and away from the seniors. Uhg Thor.

Season 3 Episode 2
Girl Meets High School Part 2

Initial Thoughts and Reactions:

  • I am so glad they changed the opening intro. I like it so much!
  • I am so happy that Riley’s first thought was a hope for Farkle and her last one was for Lucas to have a bad day.
This is what it's like being in the triangle!
  • I like Lucas going out for the football team and Zay following, but in what world would Zay make it too? In fact he should not and that would make for a better story.
  • So, I watched twice and the second time around, noticed the Nikki and Francesca were with the Intellectual club- are they a part of it or just there?
  • Everyone should feel bad for blaming Riley that high school is awful because it is and it’s not her fault.
  • Major questions about this bay window scene: why would the seniors really visit them? And how did they know where they live? (Corey is a new teacher at the high school and would they have known Riley is his daughter to ask if they could come over)? This is all confusing. Oh, look, they really aren’t bad guys.
  • Enough with the triangle jokes. They aren’t funny and no Thor, you need to pick one!
  • Marley is really fun to have in class, but only because it’s Corey’s class and she will question his methods, which sometimes Corey needs. He isn’t only teaching Riley and her friends, but that is exactly what he does.
  • There were several good messages from this episode about high school: You’re going to get massacred, your friends are your safe place, stick together, etc.
  • The most important message was of course the Feeny message and I am glad they remembered it!
  • They’re starting a legacy (just like from season two when they left one).

***Extra Tidbits***
  • Auggie and Ava were cute, but the invisible dog was too much.
  • Ava is clearly the stronger actor.
  • Marley is super fun, but totally going to need help getting Corey’s desk.
  • This clearly a Disney channel show and clearly a Disney high school.
This is how I'll always remember Thor!

IF I WROTE THE SHOW
I said in part one I would ax the seniors all together and focus the change that high school really is. I am fine that everyone fought (even if it was so unjust- we had a bad day- it’s all your fault)! I still would have had the group make up, but have their separate interests/classes and come back together showing that they can still be friends and change. They aren’t the “kings” anymore but they will be just fine. It can never be the same, but a good kind of different. Sadly, they chose to go back to the same, when something should have been different.

*****NOTE*****
Moving forward, our episode reviews  will be in one single post- Shane Lee

Girl Meets World 3.1 Girl Meets High School Parts 1 & 2

If the transition from middle to high school is this hard for this bunch, I really hate to see their transition from high school to real life/world. In Girl Meets High School parts one and two we find out just how self-centered Riley and the gang are. Thanks Corey. Riley, Maya, Lucas, and Farkle spent their entire middle school careers having lessons designed around them, and now that they have been put into a bigger pond where everything does not revolve around them, they can't even. At some point during these episodes Corey asked if he had prepared them for this? I'm going to go ahead and say no, no he did not.

Anyway, back to it. Three new riveting (?) characters are introduced in the season opener. Someone, cue the yo-yos! Oh! Here they are:

They are here to put the high school newbies in their place. Apparently, as we learn in part two of this sequel, they had the same egocentric attitude coming into high school and they want to teach Riley and her friends a lesson so they will have a better experience at Abigail Adams High. Whatever. Why are they qualified to do this? They aren't. And why don't they have better things to do? They put a lot of thought into this lesson, even going as far as writing a freshmen song which, when performed, just comes out all corny and terrible. The only redeeming part of this performance was Riley's excitement. Make this stop, though. I do not like Thor and his minions. This just isn't a realistic trio and I really hope future episodes in season three will just exclude them.

Thor and the minions (I really can't remember their names) do not just follow Riley and Maya around, they pop up in Farkle/Smackle situations too.

Speaking of Farkle/Smackle, (not Farkle Minkus and Isodora Smackle, it's Farkle/Smackle because they are a package deal now) the writers, at some point, married these two characters and didn't invite us to the wedding. It totally happened though. They are inseparable and I'm worried that in the future there will be no Farkle story line without Smackle and vice versa. Although, if they keep treating Smackle as if she were a Big Bang Theory character, I wouldn't mind seeing stories COMPLETELY free of her. They have bogged her down with all the horrible stereotypical qualities of an intelligent person. I really think my biggest peeve is the speaking like a robot thing and if that would just stop, these intelligent characters would be so much better off for it.

But enough of the negativity. I want to turn to the positives now because I liked a lot of things about these two episodes as well. For instance, Lucas. I'm really on the Lucas bandwagon right now. I think his reactions to triangle bullshit won me over. Huh- Hurr!

But really, this isn't all it took. I'm really buying what he's selling. Lucas is really concerned with protecting his friends and so far his high school experience hasn't allowed him to do that. And that's what he has to offer, his protection. It really seems to mean a lot to him to be able to provide that service because that's how he contributes to his friendships. I like it. He needs to be more than the doofy attractive athlete and this is a start.

I enjoy the growing relationship between Zay and Lucas; this is a believable relationship. There is a Jack/Eric quality to their friendship and it makes me happy. I hope they find ways to include Farkle in this friendship in the future too.

I enjoyed Marly Evans. I'm a fan of Corey being called out on his specially tailored lessons that only benefit his daughter and her friends, so her sarcastic commentary was welcome. She seems to represent those loners that exist in high school, the ones that don't run around with mobs of people and that pleases me. I really hope she sticks around.

In conclusion, Riley and friends have a hard time adjusting to life after middle school, and three lame seniors take it upon themselves to spend their every waking moment to guide the youngsters as they attempt to navigate through these new waters. Love triangle resolution didn't happen, Farkle and Smackle tied the knot, Lucas and Zay shine, and Riley and Maya (supposedly) learn not to jump so fast and look around, whatever that means. Thank you, Thor and your minions, this episode would not have been possible without you and your wisdom.

I do have a concern about the future of this season and those to come and I would like to express that now. I enjoy Auggie in small doses, and Ava is really good. The girl is good. However, if they get too much time on the screen I fear the show will not be able to grow up as much as I need it to.

Introduction

Hello. I'm Sydni and I'm new. This blog, which will include reviews of some of our favorite television shows, is my first and I am very excited about it! I'm no writer, though; I'm just a girl who enjoys watching her shows then thinking very (perhaps too) critically about them later. Some of my favorite shows in the past have included; The Office, Parks & Recreation, Peep Show, Doctor Who, Friends, and Seinfeld. I tend to gravitate towards comedies in television and film, but I can handle a little drama every now and then.

Other than television my interests include; hiking, dancing, and spending lots of time with my doggies.

:)

Since we're currently focusing on Girl Meets World, here are some things I'm liking/disliking about it at the moment:

  • My GMW pairing differs from Shane's. I'm team Riley and Charlie. Rarlie. Rarrrrlie. I miss Mr. Gardner.
  • I like Lucas. I like Lucas a lot. He hasn't been the most captivating character in the first two seasons, but I really feel he's starting to grow as a character and I usually enjoys scenes that include him.
  • I like Zay. Oh wait a minute, I LOVE Zay Babineaux! He's funny with sense and if you aren't already convinced of this, I will work hard to make you see how delightful he is.
  • I want less Auggie and Ava.

Hiya, blogging world! I am new to this, so let’s have a fun writing adventure, as all writers like to do. I’m Shane Lee and when I am not blogging, I am an aspiring actor and writer, looking to be published soon. I write mainly fiction, short stories, novella and sometimes an actual novel. I also dabble in other writings, such as plays, poetry, etc. When I am really focused on a story, there so much I want to put into it, that sometimes I need to give myself limits. Yes, I was always that kid in school that had no trouble meeting the word requirements for my papers. I was the kid that always had to ask if I was allowed to go over.

As far as this blog goes, the most important things to know is that 1. We only reviews shows (and possibly other things in the future) that we have both seen or watch. 2. We love and care a great deal about the shows and characters we review, so even if we poke fun at them, it’s only because we’re such big fans. 3. We also aren’t afraid to point out the not so good things. Sometimes, weather it be continuity issues, characterization or plot holes, nothing and no one is perfect and we realize that. 4. Since we just thought of doing this blog, we are starting with the current season of the shows we review. We’ll retcon Legends of Tomorrow Season 1 a little later this summer. 5. Finally, my main goal is to have fun in community of others where we can talk about shows and other things we enjoy!

Shane Lee’s Girl Meets World Fandom
As you guys (hopefully) read and enjoy my reviews, there a few things you should know about how I watch the show and what I am a fan of, so here goes
  • First and foremost, the most important thing is MY GMW One True pairing- Farkle and Riley. I believe they have much more chemistry on the show than any other cast members and will point it out and ship them every chance I get.
  • I am not a huge Lucas fan. He just didn’t have much character in the first season and I’m still not impressed from what I saw in season two. Plus, he looks like an adult compared to the rest of the cast.
  • The show will always need more Feeny.
  • As a BMW fan and someone who loves nostalgia, I can always think of ways to include more BMW cast and still focus on the GMW cast. It is a sequel after all so I see no reason why some episodes couldn’t be more about Corey and/or Topenga.

I believe that’s all for now. Hit up the comments with any questions and comments. I can’t wait to begin this new writing adventure!
