Riverdale: Heart of Darkness

  • Hey everyone, just a quick note this week. Syd and I both watched the show, but Syd is off on a mountain somewhere petting baby goats, so you still get my review this week and of what an episode it was!
  • We’re introduced to ThorneHill, the creepiest home in Riverdale that is actually home to the Kool-Aid colored hair family, the Blossoms. Cheryl has a nightmare about being attacked by Jason’s corpse and wakes in his bed, something her mother wants her to stop doing. She also forbids Cheryl from giving the eulogy at the funeral.
    Gothic Kool-Aid Cheryl!
  • In the Blue & Gold editing room, Kevin has helped Juggy and B recreate a murder board, similar to that of his father’s that was destroyed at the end of the last episode.
It's like Guess Who? But not as fun . . .
  • In a somewhat awkward moment, Luke Perry asks Hermoine out, but she reminds them that they are both still married, which was a big fat no!
"LOL no, that would make our kids siblings and the Blossom Twins have that covered" Hermoine
  • One of the main storylines features Archie having to decide which aspect of a future career is more important to him, football, where is spot of captain is on the line, or his music. Valerie swoops in and gives Archie the number of big music agent(I honestly can’t remember what he does, but he was suppose to be uber important).
"I'm just gonna slip this inside your pocket, okay?" Val
    • Veronica also had a great line where she asked Archie how life was in a PG world meaning a Post Grundy world, LOL, love her.
      Everyone always crowds around Veronica!
  • Cheryl hands out invites to everyone to Jason’s party memorial service.
Everyone hoped to get an invite to the party memorial service!
V wants to end the bitterness between them and Cheryl, at this moment, agrees and invites her to sleepover.
    BFF's!
  • Archie later meets with Oscar Castio, the big music guy and learns he is quite unprepared for the music world.
"Hm, so you think you can sing?" -Oscar
  • Betty goes out on a fact finding mission date with Trevor (Val’s brother and one of Jason’s friends) where he tells her Jason changed before he left and soon after dating Polly. He sold all of his things, quit talking to his friends and rumors circulating that he may have been dealing drugs.
    B was not impressed.
    • Betty goes home and confronts Papa B about her sister and finally tells her Polly was sent away because after Jason, she attempted suicide.
Reporter, mechanic, crazy twin sister, is there anything B can't do?
  • In the house across from her, Val, uncharacteristically helps Archie write out some of songs and seems a little too much into it. The next day, Archie again meets with Oscar who tells him his songs are juvenile and repetitive. LOL everyone is so supportive of Archie as a singer which is great, but I have yet to see anything that says so . . .
The way Val is looking at Archie . . .
  • That night, Betts and Juggy make plans to search Jason’s bedroom while V attends the creepiest sleepover ever! The parental Blossoms are no better than their twins; they’re insulting, snobby and yet V stands her ground.
This dinner was to die for . . .
    • Later, V and Cheryl gush about how handsome Jason was, before V encourages Cheryl to speak at the service anyway, regardless of what her parents think.
"And here's one of Jason and I cuddling," -Cheryl #Twincest
  • A the diner, Hermoine receives a box with a rattle snake inside from the Southside Serpents and admits to Luke Perry that her husband still owes them money.
"Ohai, got any cookiesssssssss" -The snake
  • It’s the day of Jason’s party memorial service
    • Juggy picks B up from her house so they can go together.
    • Luke Perry offers Hermoine the book keeping job at his business
    • Cheryl makes her grand entrance, wearing the same dress that she had on the day of Jason’s disappearance, which really infuriates her mother.
      Here comes the bride-oh wait!
  • After the service takes a break for food and festivities “a light dinner”, Juggy and B sneak into Jason’s room where they find, creepily hidden in a dark corner, wheelchair bound Aunt Rose who mistakens Betty for Polly.
"I need more Kool-Aid" -Aunt Rose
    • B plays along and learns that Polly and Jason were engaged and Aunt rose gave Polly the family ring.
  • Later, Val and Archie are still hanging out quite a bit under the guise of working on music.
When Archie realizes how Val is looking at him!
  • B confronts her father once again and learns that Cheryl’s great grandfather murdered her great father, all over a shared business that is now the Bloom family fortune.
  • As the episode comes to a close, having confided in Juggy, B adds her family name to the murder board. Juggy tells her they need to talk to Polly.
    Hangin' W/the Coopers!

*****Extra Tidbits*****
  • Crazy Pants was conspicuously absent this episode where there was a lot of focus on B’s family.
  • I can’t help but to feel Val’s role should have been Josie, who again was absent which makes little sense to me, since she also missed Jason’s memorial service and is suppose to be good friends with Cheryl.
  • I believe their official ship-name is #Bughead, but I need more B and Juggy screen time!
    #Bughead
  • Archie’s music montage was just ridiculous and full of way too much body oil!
  • I also dubb mama Blossom Crazy Pants II!

Questions:
  • How did you like a PG (Post Grundy) Riverdale?
  • Where were Crazy pants I, Josie and Joquin?
  • Do you think Val was just being nice in helping Archie or do you think she developed a craving for some Kool-Aid?
  • Is Archie a crappy music writer or too inexperienced with life to write good songs?
  • Did anyone else think Mama Blossom seemed slightly jealous of Cheryl or was it just grief?
  • Will actually get any clues into who the real killer is?

That’s all for this week. Until next week, stay #RiverdaleStrong!
